The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X
Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead.

We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already.

Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade.

With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB.
Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!"

If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles?
No, kill your idols instead!
There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past.

How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep?
Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are.
There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing.

Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us.

Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996!

ok im harmlessly harnessing the full power of the wireless internet from next door. im at home. ive never posted on djtt from home before, so i will have a small rant. i am, as per, in an a rather loose description, baked.
this song is my new favourite, thanks to the powers of youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-CrSlz0TGM

this is just one of the many insane tunes that the mad styles of the upbeats (Mr D.Wolf and T.Snake) have produced.
this is another example along similar lines to the one above

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtKxPc-an20

the upbeats are from my home coutry of noiseeland. these guys are my biggest musical influence to date, the most diverse music i have ever heard and the strongest calling into drum and bass for me (heavily influenced by 5 buckets every sitting )

the following songs are from their most recent album- Nobody's Out There. this album is perhaps the most amazing musical journey i have ever experienced (surprisingly less drug influence involved).

this song is is the best upbeats song ever from the same album

i feel it is better than i can describe with my ranting

however it is high time i return to the drone of bass warble until my ears bleed, or i get tired.

if i ever have the internet in my small shack of a home i will have a rant about spor. cos he rules too

p.s. still havent downloaded the supermix part 2 cos im a useless hippie and cant figure out what im doing wrong with the buttoned-screen-box, but ill get on it asap

For me it's Epic!

Personally, I like this remix better than the original, so to me this could never be an epic Fail.

Headhunter
Kode 9
High Rankin
Coki
Bulletproof

Theres also Caspa & Rusko... but they are more mainstream dubstep. Get kinda tiring after a while.

N-Types production imo isnt that hot, hes more recognised as a DJ then anything else... well actually hes supposed to be the premier dubstep DJ. Listen to the dubstep allstars mixes (all mixed by NType). His skills as a track Selektah are beyond compare.

Nice one dudes!

At the moment I am very much into Bar 9 - Shaolin, Reso - Onslaught and SPL - Lust.

But will check Optimus Gryme and N-Type. (After checking some more Black Sun Empire to wake up. )

Have check them at Beatport, Optimus Gryme had some nice tracks, though I could not relate to N-Type. (Only Way of the dub was kinda nice)

Though I ran into Rusko - Cockney Thug.
(Some nice sampling of Bricktop! )
Ryan Morales

Sic. You need to record the full set so I can listen to it!

//

I kinda agree with you Tekki, but I saw N-Type live... he played 3 hours of masssssive dubstep and it was awesome. I mean I was sitting down for like the last hour blazed as fuck on the couch tripping out... but yeah.

Tho I have to say when he dropped some DnB at the end I was fucking stoked to hear it, and got my crazy feet on hard.
